Christmas CoutdownBy Sassy Crafter, December 2008
This time of year, kids can hardly wait for the man in the red suit to bring toys to all good girls and boys. One way to help kids count the days is with an Advent calendar. But why settle for an old-fashioned paper one? Make a 3-D sculpture that can hold a small surprise for every day between now and Christmas Eve! Read the rest of this entry »

MosaicBy Sassy Crafter, November 2008
We’ve all heard the expression, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do,” but there’s no need to be in Rome to create your own mosaic. This tessellating art form adorned countless Roman villas and can still be used to cover any number of exposed surfaces–floors, walls and even Magic 8 Balls. Read the rest of this entry »

Coozies!By Sassy Crafter, September 2008

No matter how you spell it–cosy, cozy or coozie–you’ll want one of these to keep your beverages cold now that tailgating season has arrived. Here’s a way to make a snazzy coozie that folds flat to fit in your pocket while you’re heading to the stadium. Dog HouseBy Sassy Crafter, August 2008

The kids are out of school and the dog days of summer are just around the corner. It can be a struggle to keep kids occupied when it’s so darn hot outside. The next time you run out of half-and-half for your coffee, save that carton and help your kids turn it into a unique doghouse night light. The cutting should be done by an adult, but the gluing and decorating steps are great for kids.

It’s finally summer and it sure is hot! ‘Tis the season for tank tops and breezy skirts. But what to do when you venture to over-chilled spots like the movies or the grocery store? Try this summer shrug to keep the chill off your shoulders. It’s crafted from a recycled sweater and was inspired by projects in the new book Sweater Surgery. Re-done DudsBy Sassy Crafter, June 2008

Ever get tired of the clothes hanging in your closet? Or maybe you have items you’ve loved for years, but they’re looking worn out. My favorite silk top was looking drab from too many ill-advised trips through the washing machine. With just a little dye, some embellishments, and a dash of creativity, I created an entirely new look.

OMDB Block 2By the Sassy Crafter, May 2008

I recently visited Ipso Crafto, a cool craft store in Washington, D.C., where I fell in love with this adorable stuffed cube. Not only is a great toy for young kids, it’s also a useful way to get rid of all those scraps you can’t bear to part with.

By the Sassy Crafter, September 2007

Old sewing patterns abound at thrift stores and garage sales. If you don’t sew, you might not have ever given them a second glance. If the pattern is uncut, you can use it as creative wrapping paper for presents. Or if it has been cut, try using the pieces in an interesting decoupage treatment. I transformed an old card table that had been abandoned curbside by its former owner. You can use a card table, or any other hard-surfaced furniture item. Just be sure to clean it well before you start. Read the rest of this entry »
