Garden Light

By the Sassy Crafter, April 2008

It’s springtime, and that means people are spending more days outside tinkering in their yards. Why not enjoy your garden in the evenings too, by setting the mood with these resourceful garden lights? Sure you can buy some of those new-fangled solar lights, but old-fashioned candlelight is sure to be more alluring.

What you need:

1)    Small glass bowl or cup

2)    Copper pipe

3)    Copper pipe adapter

4)    Epoxy

5)    Pipe cutter

6)    Tea light

What to do:

1)    Pick up a small, glass bowl or cup from your favorite thrift store. Then visit the plumbing section of your local hardware store and buy a section of half-inch copper pipe and a copper pipe adapter (a trumpet-shaped fitting that has smooth opening on one end and a wider, threaded opening on the other end).

2)    Mix up some two-part epoxy and apply to the bottom of the cup. Invert the cup and place the wide end of the pipe adapter onto the epoxy. Let cure.

3)    Use the pipe cutter to trim the pipe to a good length. (Note: if you ask nicely at the hardware store, the staff may be willing to do this for you.)

4)    Mix up a second batch of epoxy and apply a light coat to the inside of the adapter and to the end of the pipe. Insert the pipe into the adapter and let the epoxy cure.

5)    After adding a tea light, place the finished product in a nice spot and you’re ready for an evening in the garden.
