Death Magnetic, Warner Bros.
I know that I will get laughed at for this but, the new Metallica record is good. Not great, but good. The thing that makes Death Magnetic good is the raw and fast power of the songs. Kirk Hammett still writes face-melting solos, I must admit. The bad parts of Death Magnetic start with the recording being too loud and “X-treme.” Every single lyric rhymes (lame), and the patented James Hetfield barks and “Yeas!” are on almost every song. In their defense, at least they didn’t try to go all “political” like some bands (really Green Day, American Idiot? Your first major label album was called Dookie). Although Lars Ulrich is still a total douchebag, I’m just glad he remembered that he can still play fast as shit.
