Comeback Cadillac, Esperanza Plantation
For a young band hailing from Jackson, Miss., The Weeks have certainly attained a wealth of great rock influences.
Outshining other singers many years his senior, Cyle Barnes shows similarities in his delivery to such punk stalwarts as Joe Strummer and Tim Armstrong. Not everything here rages, however. There are also slower, acoustic numbers, like “Hold It, Kid,” that would almost pass as Jack Johnson tunes if it weren’t for the heroin-inspired and other lyrical content. The maturity on this debut record cannot be overlooked. It would certainly be intriguing to see how these kids can pull these songs off live.
